The Best Stainless Steel Grills for 2020

When seeing a stainless steel grill, you need to know that not all steel is of the same grade.

It’s a very important detail that not many manufacturers talk about openly, and for a good reason.

Only high quality stainless steel indeed effectively protects from corrosion, but its price is higher. The cheapest options are made of poor quality steel, which is why corrosion appears after just a few seasons, something that plenty of people are really surprised with.

Remember that there’s more than looks, which is why, when buying a stainless steel grill, you should make sure what’s the grade of the steel the entire construction of the grill was made of.

It will be the easiest for you to check out my personal list of the best stainless steel grills and pick the model that best suits your expectations.

The Best Stainless Steel Grills Reviewed

I have picked several tested options available in different price ranges, sizes etc. Remember that the cheapest options won’t be entirely made of top-grade stainless steel.

weber genesis II S-335

A grill very solidly made of high quality materials, an option that is more for those experienced and demanding due to its price.

The large and multi-functional Weber Genesis II S-335 is a great choice for those who cook a lot and in large quantities. It offers a huge cooking area, a lot of work space, a functional construction and several interesting gadgets/features.

This three-burner gas grill comes with whole 513 square inches of the main cooking area. Such capacity is more than enough for a big family, or even when cooking for a large number of people.

Besides the main burners, you also have a side burner and a sear burner at your disposal. Both burners are great and very useful during each cooking session (I have both in some of my grills).

The side burner hidden under the lid in the side shelf is versatile enough to facilitate many applications. My favorite, on the other hand, is the sear burner, which makes it possible to get perfect sear marks on the food’s surface in just a moment.

I use the sear burner most often, as it allows me to perfectly finish every food, making it look much better.

On top of great burners, the Genesis II series stands out with its phenomenal quality of workmanship for this kind of money. It is no wonder that Weber has decided to cover this series with whole 10 years of warranty.

This grill was built using high quality materials, which can be felt and seen right from the first contact. It is surprising that even the minor elements were taken into account, such as the steel lid handle.

I know it’s a pretty expensive grill but I believe that, among all the options on the market, this is the best stainless steel grill. I took into account the price to quality ratio, functionality, durability, quality of workmanship and of course great warranty.

Char-Broil Performance 300

You have a very limited budget, but still dream of a solid stainless steel grill ?

Char-Broil Perfromance 300 is a small-sized cabinet style grill equipped with two burners and all the essential elements and features. It’s a great option if you don’t have much money or simply don’t need a huge grill.

A good solution for those who don’t have much room, despite its small size it makes it possible to prepare food for several people.

Sure, only the lid and the front panel are made of stainless steel, but one has to admit that combined with the rest, it looks great.

I consider it to be one of the best models in the entire Char-Broil offer. It’s a brand that offers gas grills at affordable prices at the expense of quality, but this time it’s different.

In terms of quality of workmanship and durability, Char-Broil Performance 300 has really impressed me. I am very surprised with solid workmanship and efficiency of the two burners despite the price.

It is really hard to find some decent alternative for this kind of money.

It has 300 square inches of the main cooking area, and the two burners make it possible to create two heat zones.

The whole construction was very well designed, which makes cooking very convenient. The side shelves provide a lot of work area, and the space behind the door makes it possible to safely store accessories.

It’s a pretty simple grill that only comes with the essential features and elements, guaranteeing convenience and efficiency. Another result of the simplicity is higher attention to workmanship, which resulted in a solidly built grill that will withstand a lot.

Weber Summit S-470

My last suggestion is one of the most versatile grills on the market, available in a stainless steel version.

It’s a large and solidly built grill that looks spectacular in the backyard, but besides the looks it really surprises with functionality and convenience when cooking.

Weber Summit S-470 is a suggestion only for decided and experienced people (unless the budget is not a problem).

If you love grilling and like to experiment, it is a perfect choice for you.

It has 468 square inches of the main cooking area, four main burners and as many as 4 additional burners. Its large capacity and such number of main burners allow for convenient cooking at different temperatures.

The Summit series mostly stands out thanks to as many as four additional burners. Each of them offers a lot of very useful possibilities that you are certainly going to make use of when cooking on this grill.

The dedicated burners consist of a sear burner (my favorite), a side burner, a rotisserie burner and a smoke burner + box.

These types of gadgets are there to make cooking more diverse and to make it possible to achieve much better results.

The entire construction was made of high-grade stainless steel, even the tiniest elements.

One has to admit that the style sure is impressive.

This grill costs a lot, but considering the quality of workmanship (10 years of warranty) and functionality, I think that it is worth its very high price.

For that kind of money, you get a top of the line grill that guarantees a lot of fun thanks to its versatile gadgets.

Grades 430 and 304 Stainless Steel

Check out whether the entire grill is made of high-grade steel or just small elements such as connectors, screws etc. The highest quality stainless steel guarantees great properties, effectively protecting from corrosion, among others.

Grade 304 stainless steel is what you should look for if you expect the highest resistance and durability. It is non-magnetic steel and is characterized by the best protective properties when it comes to corrosion.

Grade 430 stainless steel is a much cheaper alternative that costs much less. Sadly, it is magnetic steel and it needs to be mentioned that it’s characterized by much poorer resistance to corrosion.

The difference is really huge and you can often tell it by the fact that the cheapest stainless steel grills tend to have serious corrosion problems after just a few seasons. Grills made of top-grade stainless steel, on the other hand, indeed effectively protect from corrosion for a long time.

You have to pay attention to the grade of the stainless steel your grill was built of. Whether it was made entirely of 304 steel or maybe just partially.

Many brands, especially at the lower price range, choose to use the best grade steel only for certain sensitive elements like screws etc. The rest of the grill, on the other hand, is made of poorer grade steel (grade 430).

The same grill is advertised as made of stainless steel but the reality tends to be different. That’s why it’s a must to monitor what materials the manufacturer used to build the grill and its individual elements.

Tips for buying stainless steel grill

Below I present several universal tips that will certainly come in handy when buying a stainless steel grill.

Budget – The price difference in some cases is huge, which is why I suggest right at the start to focus on a specific price range.

Size – Think about how much space you have for a new grill and how often you cook. When it comes to capacity, there’s a lot to choose from, so analyze all your needs carefully.

Features – You want functionality and interesting gadgets? I have to admit that I like a lot of them myself, but you have to remember that they increase the price significantly. If you have a limited budget, a much better solution is to buy a simple yet solid grill ( see best gas grills under $200 or under $300.

Steel Grade – Pay attention to the grade of the steel that the grill’s construction was made of. Also check out whether all elements were made of the same quality steel. It is common for manufacturers to only use the top-grade steel for the most important elements like the screws, for example. The rest of the grill’s construction, on the other hand, is made of poorer quality steel, which brings the manufacturer a bigger profit out of the price.

Number of burners – I recommend at least three burners due to the convenience and the ability to create different heat zones. It allows you to cook different types of food at the same time, or even to cook indirectly.
